Compliance Tool – “Not Tax Advice” Notice

IRS CIRCULAR 230 NOTICE: To the extent that this message or any attachment concerns tax matters, it is not intended or written to be used, and cannot be used, by a taxpayer for the purpose of avoiding penalties that may be imposed by law.  This message was written to support the promotion or marketing of the transactions or matters addressed herein, and the taxpayer should seek advice based on the taxpayer’s particular circumstances from an independent tax advisor.

The above is the suggested language of the IRS regarding marketing that may include some mention of tax strategies.  You may want to copy this for emails or other correspondence in which you need to make a disclaimer about your statements.  You could also copy and paste it to your email signature to assure you are “covered” at all times.  I asked Advanced Marketing at Trans how they do it and they told me that this is the industry standard.
